About Our School
Welcome to Lilac Montessori, a teacher-led early education program in the heart of Escondido. Our mission is to provide an inclusive Montessori education with flexible tuition options and a strong commitment to supporting community families.
We serve children ages 18 months to 5 years, bridging the gap between school and home. By fostering open communication and collaboration with families, we support the holistic development of every child.
As a micro-school, Lilac Montessori is guided by dedicated teacher-leaders who both teach and administer the program. This model allows us to make responsive, child-centered decisions while staying true to our vision and values.
Grounded in the principles of Maria Montessori, our classrooms are designed to encourage independence, exploration, and self-discovery. We balance tradition with innovation, using observation, documentation, and technology to continually improve the learning experience.
Inclusivity is at the heart of our philosophy. Through hands-on, multi-sensory materials and individualized instruction, we meet the needs of diverse learners and empower children to grow in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills.
Join us at Lilac Montessori—where curiosity is nurtured, community is valued, and education shapes a brighter future.

Head of School - Founding Teacher Leader

Heather Zolzer
Head of School - Teacher Leader
With nearly 20 years in Montessori education, my journey began while searching for a unique learning environment for my oldest daughter. The moment I stepped into a Montessori classroom, I knew I had found my calling. After completing my Primary and Elementary training at the Montessori Institute of San Diego, my career flourished.
I am passionate about supporting children with diverse needs and challenging personalities. By individualizing the curriculum and adapting the classroom environment, I strive to help every child thrive—always with love, compassion, and humor. As a founding leader at Lilac Montessori, I am dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive community.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy baking, cooking, and crafting. I’m a proud parent of two daughters, share my home with a lively furry family, and hold a B.A. in Ethnic Studies and an M.Ed. from Loyola University.
